Who says there's a war out there?

Many times in my life I've been told that talking to someone about Jesus is a "war." There's warfare going out there in every home and every work place. Today I was confronted with something though. On my way to work I turned on the Christian radio station and in about 2 minutes heard diatribes for at least three different moral political issues by a leading voice in the Christian community. That's a pretty normal occurance. However, today it was somewhat thought provoking.

You see, about a half hour before my ride to work, I watched a news story on the CBS Morning Show(I tried to post a link, but CBS doesn't have it up yet) about religion in the work place. It seems that dozens of Fortune 500 companies are now converting conference rooms into "Meditation and Prayer" rooms for people of all religions in their companies to come and pray during the work day. While their motives are most likely driven by the bottom line, they are inviting conversations about God to come into the workplace.

I couldn't help but think:

Why is the Christian news railing against the enemy, and our need to pass legislation because the proverbial powers of the world are against us; yet a secular news station is reporting that Non-Christian businessmen are gladly welcoming "spiritual conversations" into their companies? How many Christians own businesses but are afraid of having a Muslim pray in their board room? How many Christians are there who refuse to do this because it "conflicts with their values?" Are "We" missing the mark?

Praise God for using non-Christians to open the doors to having open and honest conversations about Him.

I like the thought too Jon.

That made me think about how much I used to blow off non christians, or at least ignore what they're saying so that I can forward my agenda. I've come to realize that many Non believers actually have a lot of wisdom that I can learn from. Maybe one of those insights in this case is to let people be who they are and value them regardless of their beliefs (or how they look, dress, sound, pray, etc). God clearly values their existence, or he wouldn't have created them.

The other thing that your blog made me think of... is that the more significant war seems to be within myself.

thanks for the thought... it was good for me to think about.

Good thoughts Jon! It seems we get lost in what the true wars are.

It seems clear that there is a war and our opponent is much more fierce than we give him credit for (mostly evidenced by my prayer life and a lazy approach toward putting on the armour of God...). However, I do think that the more people to people it is, the less of a war it is.

The powers of Darkness and ideas seem to be the battlefront not people.

2 Corinthians 4: 3And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled only to those who are perishing. 4In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.

Later in 2 Corinthians 10:3 and on it talks about a war not of the flesh and weapons not of the flesh.

Anyway...we fight many of the wrong battles and usually the wrong "enemies." But as John Piper puts it "there is no urgency, there are no bombs dropping on us...all is well in America, the 'Disneyland' of the universe." We are easily asleep or distracted over seemingly trivial things.
