Perspective

There's a man in our church named Bob. Bob has horrible rhythm, but he absolutely, unashamedly, unwaveringly loves music and singing to God. I must confess that, in my more anal moments as the worship leader, I am tempted to wish that he were not so enthusiastic. However, I am always challenged by this to remember that he is teaching me by his enthusiasm. This is why I love Bob. He helps me to remember that things like the music, the keeping of time in the service, getting on stage at the right time, making sure that the announcements don't go on too long, wearing the right clothes, whether the sound is perfectly mixed, and even my own attitude are not the point of corporate worship. Bob helps me to remember that corporate worship is about glorifying only God, not me too, and enjoying the presence of others who adore Him. That's why I love Bob.

Sharon,
I sincerely hope you continue to remember that God loves to hear your daughter's singing. If you ever wonder or worry about what other people think in this regard, please come get me and I will sit in between you and that person so that you can sing without worry.

Thanks for your thoughts on this. I
often worry about my daughter's singing
ability because of her dysarthia. I
know she loves to worship in song, but
I catch myself worrying what others may
think if she starts singing. Then God
reminds me that He loves to hear her
and that's all that matters.

In keeping with my character from the play...(you'll have to see Twelve Angry Jurors to understand) I am reminded of the following in the Bible.

2Samuel 6:16

Then it happened as the ark of the LORD came into the city of David that Michal the daughter of Saul looked out of the window and saw King David leaping and dancing before the LORD; and she despised him in her heart.

Michal later tells David, in verse 20
.. But when David returned to bless his household, Michal the daughter of Saul came out to meet David and said, "How the king of Israel distinguished himself today! He uncovered himself today in the eyes of his servants' maids as one of the foolish ones shamelessly uncovers himself!"
2Samuel 2:21-22
So David said to Michal, "It was before the LORD, who chose me above your father and above all his house, to appoint me ruler over the people of the LORD, over Israel; therefore I will celebrate before the LORD.
"I will be more lightly esteemed than this and will be humble in my own eyes, but with the maids of whom you have spoken, with them I will be distinguished."

Okay..what I love about this is that I can almost see David saying, "You ain't seen nothing yet!". His excitement and love for God is something that he just cannot control or hold back. I find myself thinking on this verse whenever I get 'distracted' by someone who seems to be a little over the top. Michal had it wrong. The presence of the Lord should cause us to do backflips! Or at the very least clap our hands, even if we can't carry a beat! Thanks for the reminder Jon. Oh..and I must concur..I also love Bob!

I totally hear ya. Sometimes i just dont want to play in my schools worship services because it eas last minute and things aren't neccessarily perfect. But this is a great reminder that it is all about God, and he'll make sure it works out anyway.
