1 Corinthians

Grace Institute for Biblical Leadership

Spring 2009

Often we idealize the 1 st century church, thinking that the early Christians were all about love, harmony and sharing with one another. But, as shown in the book of 1 Corinthians, the early churches had great struggles. They battled divisiveness and racism. They wrestled with how to live in a secular culture filled with sexual permissiveness and rampant materialism. In other words, the 1st century church faced the same battles we do today.

Course Description

This 11 week class looks at the letter written by the apostle Paul to the church in Corinth. In each lecture we will explore the message of the apostle Paul first by understanding the historical, political, and social context of this church located in 1 st century Greece. We will work our way through the book to see God's message for Corinth at this time, and how that message applies to us today. Students will be expected to commit to attending the lectures and read along and outline the book through the term.
