I. The Study of the Holy Spirit
The study of the Holy Spirit is called “pneumatology,” which comes from the Greek word pneumatos ( p?e?µat?? ), which can mean Spirit, air, breath or wind.
There are particular difficulties related to consideration of the doctrine of the Holy Spirit. Much of the Holy Spirit's ministry is to glorify the Son. As such, when we investigate and look towards the Spirit to study Him, we find ourselves instead looking at the glory of the Son. Furthermore, the imagery of the Holy Spirit is less tangible than that of a Father or a Son. Finally, in this present age, the Holy Spirit's ministry is directed by the Father and the Son and therefore can appear to be subservient to the other persons of the Trinity. Nonetheless, as a member of the Holy Trinity, the study of the Holy Spirit is an important and particularly fruitful investigation, as all believers today are indwelled by the Spirit.
