Course Syllabus
Goals of the Course
By the end of the course, you should be able to:
- Understand how to properly use and interpret the Bible.
- Understand the basic essential teachings of the Bible.
- Be able to discuss intelligently both sides of controversial doctrinal issues.
- Be able to demonstrate the validity of your own beliefs using the Bible.
Expectations
There won't be any tests or quizzes. Nonetheless, to get the most you can out of the class, I highly encourage you to make a commitment to the following expectations:
- Attend and participate in class each week.
- Complete the assigned readings.
- Complete the Bible Study worksheet.
- Think through your own beliefs and develop a personal statement of faith.
- Be willing to apply these doctrinal principles into your own life.
- Have fun.
Readings
- Paul Enns, The Moody Handbook of Theology
- Various other readings as provided.
Bible Study & Personal Statement of Faith
Each week you will be provided with a list of scripture passages related to the topic for the following week. You will review and list your observations of these passages and any other passages you think might be relevant.
Having reviewed the scriptures, you will then be asked to write a short paragraph summarizing what you believe regarding about the topic and another short paragraph describing how these beliefs change the way you live or think about life.
Then, at the end of the term, you will compile these paragraphs and use them as the basis for your Personal Statement of Faith.
