Survey of the Old Testament: The Torah

Fall 2004

Course Description

This course is designed as a basic study of the background and message of each of the books of the
Torah in the Old Testament. Particular attention will be paid to the application of specific truths within each book. Lecture, discussion, and questioning will be included in the class sessions. Homework will include the reading, analyzing, and synthesizing of each book.

Course Objectives

Each student will read each book of the Torah.
Each student will complete a simple chart of each book for future study, teaching, etc.
Each student will feel more confident in their understanding and use of the Torah in their own personal lives and in future ministries.
Each student will become better acquainted with some of the study tools available in Old Testament studies.

Course Requirements

Each student should read each Old Testament books by the assigned class time.
Each student should read the additional readings by the assigned class time.
Each student should complete a simple chart for each of the Old Testament books assigned, ready to be turned in at class time.
Each student will turn in an “implication for their lives” from each of the books of the Torah.
