Course Description

This course is designed as a basic study of the background and message of each of the books of the Writings in the Old Testament. Particular attention will be paid to the application of specific truths within each book. Lecture, discussion, and questioning will be included in the class sessions. Homework will include the reading, analyzing, and synthesizing of each book.

Course Objectives

• Students will gain an appreciation for the Old Testament Writings.
• Students will become aquatned with the history of Israel from David through the post-exilic period.
• Students will understand the concerns of the post-exilic period.
• Sudentswill feel more confident in their understanding and use of the Writings in their own personal lives and in future ministries.
• Sudents will become better acquainted with some of the study tools available in Old Testament studies.

Course Requirements

• Student should complete the assigned scripture reading each week.
• Student should read the additional readings by the assigned class time.
• Student should complete a simple chart for each of the Old Testament books assigned, ready to be turned in at class time.
• Student will turn in an “implication for their lives” at the end of the term.
