GCF is a nondenominational church. What does that mean?
GCF is not affiliated with any denomination or association. This gives the people of GCF the freedom to make specific decisions
about our vision and values. Decisions are made by the pastoral staff in conjunction with the church leadership team (we call them
elders). Grace can be described as an evangelical church that is committed to the Bible and salvation by faith alone in Christ alone.
I’ve been going to GCF for a while and don’t know anyone, how can I meet people?
There are several ways to meet people at GCF. We suggest you start with our Community Life class and you will be
able to meet other new people. In addition, joining a small group, bible study, or attending
events such as a retreat is another way to meet people.
How can a person become a member of GCF?
At Grace, the Community Life class is the starting point. In this class, you will learn the vision and values of
GCF, our statement of faith, and how our church operates. This class is designed to help you understand the basic beliefs of Christianity and to understand
our ministry philosophy. After the class you can let us know if you want to become a member.
What is the dress code at GCF?
The people of Grace dress casually, which means jeans, slacks, shorts in the summer, and sweaters in the winter.
What is the history of GCF?
In the spring of 1980 a group of families bonded together in a step of faith to establish a new church in Eugene – Grace Community
Fellowship. A guiding principle in the founding of Grace was that “Eugene does not need just another church.” If a church were to be started, it would
have distinctive qualities that were not found in any other church in town. On June 1, 1980, Grace held its first public services.
The 50 families that formed Grace were committed to God and to each other to provide a place where hurting people could find love and healing and where
people longing to worship God could find freedom in worship. Since then, we have, under the Lord’s guidance, endeavored to remain Biblical in government,
creative in worship, challenging in teaching, contemporary in program, and progressive in outreach.
Why does the church play the music that it does?
The theme of the music is selected to coincide with the sermon; thus, the worship pastor and the senior pastor work together to design
the services. While we want to be respectful of different music styles, GCF has chosen to be contemporary in music. Generally speaking, we believe music
style is an issue of preference.
As someone new to the church, are there expectations of me?
As a new attendee, we want you to feel free to be anonymous and sit in the back row on Sundays or to jump right in and get involved.
Where can I go with a new baby? Am I allowed to bring my baby into the worship center?
We have a great nursery for your baby! Every children’s ministry volunteer is closely screened and a fingerprint background check is performed. You can bring your baby into the church service, but we suggest you sit near the back. We all know that infants can get fussy and you can quietly slip out when that happens.
May I take communion?
Anyone who professes faith in Christ may take communion.
Why is attending church so important anyway? Can't I worship God just as well in a boat on the lake or on a mountain trail?
You can worship God by attending church, praying, giving, being obedient, singing, and so forth. The bible teaches that constant
interaction with other Christ followers helps us to grow spiritually
( Hebrews 10:24-25).
